Shadowing Opportunities for 5th grade families
All slots for our 2012-13 5th grade Shadow Days have been filled. Shadow days will resume in the Fall of 2013.
Is your child interested in shadowing a current 6th grader at Davidson? If the answer is yes, Hooray! There are two easy steps to make that happen:
1) Choose a preferred date:
- January 15, 2013
- January 29, 2013
- February 12, 2013
- March 13, 2013
- March 26, 2013
2) Call or e-mail Ms. Treewater at ktreewater@srcs.org or 485-2463 and tell her your two preferred dates (Dates are scheduled on a first come-first served basis and a maximum of 5 students will be scheduled for each date.)
What can I expect? Please arrive at the Davidson Middle School front office at 7:45. A parent is required to accompany their child. Students and their parents will shadow in three different classrooms from 7:50-10:50. You child is welcome to participate in the classroom learning or relax and soak in the middle school environment. Teachers will not have a special plan for the 5th grader; these days are designed to provide a snapshot of daily life at DMS. At 10:50 families will convene in the front office for a short question and answer period.

Parent School Tours
Principal, Dr. Harriet MacLean leads parent tours on the first Thursday of the month from 9:00-10:00. There is no need to make a reservation. Please check in the front office before 9:00. The tour will provide a comprehensive overview of the school as well as visitation to a few classrooms.

Community Shadow Days
Please join us for our Community Shadow Days where adults are partnered with a Davidson Middle School student. The morning begins by gathering in the library and hearing from the principal Dr. MacLean. Each adult is then matched with a student to shadow in their classrooms and feel the middle school experience! Adults and students meet in the library for a short debriefing of their shadowing experience.
Our next community shadow day has been scheduled for March 1, 2013. We will begin at 8:00am in the DMS library with coffee and light refreshments.
