Summer Notes for Band Students
Band Camp
I’m really excited about having our first ever band camp.
I hope it helps us to be at our best through out the year!
The Band Camp will be August 13, 14, and 15 for Advanced and Intermediate Band students.
We will have drum line practices, marching practice, music practice, color guard practice and possibly Advanced Jazz rehearsals or clinics over the three days.
Times are roughly between 9am and 3pm (this is not a sleep over camp).
I will mail home a schedule one week before the band camp. If you know your mailing address has changed please let me know.
If you can’t make all or some of the days and times just let me know.
Get your instrument over-hauled.
This would be a great time to have your instrument cleaned and checked over. Anthony’s Woodwinds is a great local place and he will also work on brass instruments.
Try new music.
There are a lot of web sites that have free music for students like http://www.tubapeter.com
If you cannot find any songs on-line that you are interested in, then go to the Magic Flute in Terra Linda. This music store will have loads of books you can look through.
2nd year players in Advanced Band.
If you are going from Beginning band to Advanced Band, be sure to get Essential Elements book 2 for the instruments you played in beginning band. Work especially on the 6/8 and 16th note combinations. And, please, practice along with the CD.
Beginning Jazz Band
The Beginning Jazz Band will start at the end of September. Stay tuned. No Audtions are necessary to participate.
You Tube
Kids, I wish I had this when I was your age. There are so many things you can learn about through this website. Like, How to play high notes on the clarinet more easily, how to do a drum roll, how to improve your range on the brass instruments, etc. etc. etc.
Private lessons
If you can, get a private teacher for some lessons over the summer. Receiving Private lessons from a qualified musician is the fastest and best way to improve. Some teachers offer group lessons which may be cheaper and more fun.
Summer Camps
Good luck to any of you going to a sleep away summer music camp. I hope you can share some of what you learned when we return. Hopefully some of you can go still. I know La Honda music camp in the Santa Cruz mountains still has openings.
Band and Jazz band pieces for next year.
Band council members who want to help with music selection can go to jwpepper.com and find concert and jazz music that is between grade 2.5 to grade 3.
We will need a March (like Miss Liberty, an Air (like Danny boy), and an Overture (Like Pevensey Castle) for each performance. If you come across something we all like we’ll try it out! Students not on the band council are welcome to look too, but must pass their ideas through your section leaders first.
If you have questions or would like to share something with me, please send me an email at dtrillo@srcs.org.
Davidson's Advanced Band starts Leadership Team
Advanced Band Council March 20, 2013
Congratulations to the following students for being selected by their class mates as members of the Band Council
Flutes – Cameron Kong
Clarinets – Justin Neal
Saxes – Zoe Herbermann
High Brass – Daniel Machado
Low Brass – Levi Williams
Rhythm Section – Johnnie Lee Fain
Drum Major – Jeffrey Ford
These students will help the class make decisions about Events, Music, Services, and help find ways to improve their Band.
Students from each section should bring ideas, issues, problems, and solutions to their respective section leaders.
The council will meet at lunch on Wednesdays.
Davidson's Intermediate Band will attend their first Band and Orchestra Festival on March 29th!
The band will perform three prepared pieces and be given advice by three expert judges.
This is a major step for our students, wish them luck.
Davidson's Orchestra and Choir will also be attending CMEA festivals in the coming weeks and months.
These events are our version of a STAR test.
We are making changes to our calendar, please comeback later or contact Mr.Trillo and Mr. Mares directly for questions
