General Information
Honors English 7 and 8 (Honors English) is not a separate class; instead, an Honors English curriculum will be offered to interested 7th and 8th graders who elect to challenge themselves beyond the standard English 7 and 8. Each student who contracts for Honors English in 7th or 8th grade must commit to fulfilling certain curricular and behavioral standards. Honors English does not replace the existing, grade-level standards work in the traditional English 7 or 8 classes, but rather builds upon it to focus on higher-order thinking skills.
Honors English is a self-initiated program that does not meet on a daily basis; therefore, it is crucial that students take personal responsibility for the completion of all assignments and projects for the course. In addition, students may not add or drop this program until the open enrollment period at the semester break.
Saturday Seminar
There will be a Saturday seminar meeting scheduled at the end of each semester with a make-up Thursday session available and attendance to at least one (1) meeting is MANDATORY. These dates will be announced at the start of the semester, so please plan accordingly to attend. Of course, if a student is out for an extended time due to illness of family emergency (DOES NOT include vacations) the student will be excused only from the seminar that corresponds to the days they are not present at school.
Students enrolled in Honors English should plan on attending this session to discuss the semester course work, turn in work and collect/exchange materials and ideas.
To assist students in completing their assignments successfully and answer questions, we (English Department teachers) schedule periodical lunch meetings.
